Braves Waste Good Effort From Reyes

The Braves lost to the Blue Jays 1-0 on Sunday to drop another series on the road. Jo-Jo Reyes pitched seven strong innings, giving up only one run on six hits, but still got the loss. The injury depleted line-up for the Braves was unable to solve A.J. Burnett, who threw seven shutout innings, giving up only four hits and striking out 11 Braves.

Reyes gave up the games only run when Marco Scutaro scored on a double off the bat of Alex Rios. Reyes is just 1-4 in his past seven starts despite posting a 3.22 ERA during that stretch. Meanwhile, the Braves have now dropped 23 straight one run games on the road (MLB record).

The Braves will look to right the ship when the division leading Phillies come to Atlanta after taking a day off on Monday. Bobby Cox is hoping to have some of his big bats back in the line-up Tuesday.

  1. Jo Jo was exceptional. How could we not get a run across? Well I hate to blame it on one guy but Frenchy pretty much blew the few chances we had.

I guess missing Yunel and Chipper caught up with us on this one.

You’re right. Gotta get some back against the Phils. Good thing is they’re not playing great ball right now either.

PS with the upcoming Phillies series, here’s a post I thought you might like.

  2. I’m scratching my head, trying to figure out where the Braves offense has gone? They have such a talented line-up but I’m starting to wonder if Frenchy has a lingering injury. I’ve sat in the right field stands at Turner for about 10 games this year and have watched him half-hustle for several base hits that could’ve been catches. And it dosn’t help that Tex wants the huge contract for next year – he probably is thinking about which New York ballpark he’ll play in. I say they try and find another outfield catalyst before the trade deadline (Xavier Nady, Adam Dunn, or the Kid) who knows? Maybe it’d turn the tides on the season.

  3. I agree. But you gotta admit Tex is starting to play alot better. I truly think that if Frenchy was playing like he did last year, we would be in first place. He has killed too many rallies and the guys ahead of him have been getting on base alot, but he just isn’t bringing them in. I think when Kotsay gets back you will see a big difference.
